What if climate action felt rewarding instead of overwhelming?

Impact Miner’s goal is to get users to participate in digital/physical bounties (a series of tasks) which have a monetary reward. The activities are created by organisations on our web platform Impact Foundry.
Kinds of Users on our Platform

The Climate-Conscious Explorer
Wants to act, doesn't know where to start
Wants to take action but doesn’t know where to start
Engages with bite-sized, accessible tasks
Needs simple, guided actions and feedback on impact

The Reward-Driven Achiever
Returns for clear progression and rewards
Engages with gamified systems (Duolingo, fitness apps)
Drops off if rewards feel unclear or delayed
Needs progress tracking

The Impact Organizer
NGO mobilizing participation at scale
Participated in campaigns, initiatives, or projects
Lack of measurable engagement
Needs data and scalable participation
Design Decisions

Too much friction
Reducing a 3 step process to 1
Finding a challenge you have started is one of the most foundational features but was multiple clicks away
I re-designed it such that it’s the first thing you see when you open the app
Hard to navigate
Look through activities with ease
The map is an important way for people to find new activities around them but it was not shown upfront
The re-design has the activity card on the map itself, making it much easier to navigate
invisible rewards
See how much you’ve earned till date
Rewards only motivate when they feel visible
The previous design showed the rewards behind multiple clicks and unconsolidated
too functional
A profile that you’re proud to share
The profile page was too simple
Hence, we added the ‘Achievements’ section and visualised the ‘Impact Certificates’ section such that people can see their impact
too cluttered
Discover products personalised to you
Users shouldn’t have to work to discover products
I made ‘Market’ more simple to navigate, added a way for users to create a wishlist, make new product suggestions and have dynamic sections such as the ‘sustainability starter kit’
New Features We Designed

An onboarding that guides you through all the technicalities
Impact Miner can be intimidating and confusing to new users which is why a strong onboarding was of top priority
It takes you through all the basic things you would need to know in just 5 steps so it’s not too overwhelming and easy to understand
We also added ‘Beginner Objectives’ as a helping hand that stays with them after onboarding
Other Small Details

Making small wins feel like wins
Subtle motion and celebratory interactions can reinforce progress without adding friction to the core experience.

A step towards gamification
Key metrics were brought into the top bar to make progress more visible throughout the experience
Ideas for Future Versions

Making real world impact feel more immersive
We explored using AR to help users connect digital tasks with physical spaces like finding locations for challenges and discovering/collecting information
